Summary:

The Home Infusion Pharmacy Technician II supports the provision of high-quality infusion therapy services by performing advanced sterile compounding, inventory management, and coordination of supply preparation for home infusion patients. This position operates under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in compliance with USP <797>/<800>, UNC Health policies, and Joint Commission standards.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment. Responsibilities:

  1. Compound and prepare sterile medications (e.g., TPN, antibiotics, chemotherapy, inotropes, IVIG, hydration) in the cleanroom using aseptic technique and established batch compounding protocols.
  2. Perform required environmental monitoring, daily/weekly cleaning, and documentation to ensure compliance with sterile compounding standards.
  3. Accurately label, package, and stage compounded preparations for pharmacist verification and courier delivery.
  4. Maintain appropriate par levels of compounded products, solutions, and sterile supplies.
  5. Perform receiving, storage, and restocking of pharmacy inventory; rotate stock and check for expirations.
  6. Support tracking and resolution of temperature excursions, damaged shipments, or delayed deliveries.
  7. Participate in routine competency assessments, media fills, and fingertip testing as required by USP <797>.
  8. Assist with routine quality assurance (QA) audits, refrigerator/freezer monitoring, and emergency preparedness checks.
  9. Communicate professionally with pharmacists, nurses, and intake staff to clarify orders or coordinate changes to therapy schedules.
  10. Contribute to department process improvement initiatives and maintain all documentation per UNC Health and regulatory requirements.

    Licensure/Certification Requirements:
    ● Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
    ·CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
    Professional Experience Requirements:
    ● Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
    Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

    • Demonstrated aseptic technique proficiency and understanding of sterile compounding regulations.
    • Knowledge of USP <797>/<800> and basic pharmaceutical calculations.
    • Ability to prioritize workload, maintain accuracy, and work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Familiarity with infusion-specific systems (e.g., Brightree, DoseEdge, Simplifi+, EPIC) preferred.

    Physical Requirements

    • Prolonged standing in cleanroom environment.
    • Lifting up to 25 lbs and handling of supplies, IV fluids, and boxes.
    • Ability to don PPE and garb per sterile compounding requirements.
