Job Description:

The Electronic Production and Design Department at Berklee College of Music invites applications for a part-time faculty position specializing in sound for visual media. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with industry credits and a strong foundation in both analog and digital synthesis and composing or designing sound for film, television, or games. We are looking for someone who can inspire students through technical mastery, artistic insight, and a passion for learning.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in sound for picture, including audio post-production workflows, and sound design for film and video.

  • Contribute to curriculum development in synthesis and sound for visual media, with attention to evolving industry standards and experimental practices.

  • Mentor students in individual artistic development and professional preparation.

  • Maintain an active creative and/or industry-facing career in electronic music or media sound.

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in sound for visual media, including music, sound design, Foley, and dialog editing.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college or professional level.

  • Proficiency in synthesis platforms such as Eurorack, VCV Rack, Max/MSP, Reaktor, or hardware synthesizers, as well as software such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and Reaper.

  • Experience with sound editing and mixing for picture, including knowledge of workflows for stereo and multichannel formats.

  • Strong communication skills, with a collaborative and student-centered approach to teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent professional experience) in music technology, sound design, electronic music composition, or related field.

  • Experience with immersive audio formats or real-time interactive systems.

  • Film/game credits or a portfolio demonstrating compelling use of sound in narrative or visual contexts.

  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary collaboration and contemporary media practices.

  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.

Hiring Range:

Full-time Faculty as of 9/1/24: $56,427-$105,000
Part-time Faculty as of 9/1/24: $63.12-$130 per hour

Salaries for faculty positions vary by academic rank; Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Candidates are placed into a rank following the final completion of the interview process, based on qualifications, experience, and alignment with institutional needs.
