Patient Transportation Aide
Job Description
Under the supervision of the Radiology Manager or designee, provide timely, and efficient general transport of patients between nursing units and the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. Assist technologist and other staff members in preparing patients for examinations and assists technologist discharging patients. Monitor and provide for needs of patients waiting for services. Perform miscellaneous ancillary clerical functions to include management of incoming and outgoing mail, assemble and retrieve x-ray jackets for other hospital services, and determining the authorization of where and to whom the x-ray films are sent for legal consultation. Operate computer systems (MRMS). Perform all other related duties as assigned. Processes radiographic film using automatic film processors.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assists patients on and off beds and examination tables to the appropriate transportation device.
- Will be lifting weights in excess of 50 lbs.
- Assures patients are properly attired and covered for warmth, modesty, and comfort during transportation.
- Verifies patient identification by checking identification band and compares patient identification with name on exam request.
- Uses a variety of patient supporting and restraining equipment according to nursing or physician instructions.
- Uses transportation devices (wheelchairs, gurneys) in accordance to established safety practices.
- Reports to charge nurse, technologist, or radiologist, any noticeable changes in patient condition during transportation.
- Assist patients waiting adjacent to examination rooms to ensure their comfort and safety.
- Assists patients to dressing rooms, gives dressing instructions and releases patients per technologists instructions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Unloads and loads film cassettes using automatic film processors.
- Makes x-ray film copies using a film duplicator.
- Writes out legal documentation for sending x-rays to outside doctors, hospitals, and attorneys.
- Distribution of incoming and outgoing mail.
- Answers phones and uses MRMS.
- Assists in the Reception and Fileroom areas as needed.
- Attends mandatory in-service courses.
- Orient and trains other employees.

- High school graduate.
License, Certification, Registration
- Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
- Good verbal and written communication skills including legible handwriting.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to courteously interact with the public, health plan members and co-workers.
- Presents self in a professional manner.
- Must successfully complete computer systems training. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
