The UNC Department of Neurology is looking for a Pediatric Surgical Epileptologist to join their team. 

Clinical Responsibilities: 

• Providing medical services 

• Training residents and fellows during rotations on: 

   o Inpatient general child neurology 

   o Inpatient epilepsy monitoring unit 

   o Reading routine and stereo-electroencephalograms 

   o Evoked potentials 

   o Long-term video electroencephalograms 

• Participation in pre-surgical pediatric epilepsy diagnostic evaluations 

• Conducting both pediatric neurology and epilepsy specialty outpatient clinics 


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience 

• Established Skills: 

   o Epilepsy surgery multi-modal diagnostic evaluations 

   o Planning for localization of stereo EEG 

   o Interpretation of stereo EEG 

   o Multidisciplinary surgical approach planning with neurosurgery 

   o Includes laser interstitial thermal ablation 

   o Deep brain stimulation options for pediatric patients 

• Educational and Professional Requirements: 

   o MD/DO or equivalent degree 

   o Completed both a child neurology residency and an epilepsy sub-specialty fellowship in accredited programs 

• Licensure: 

   o Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in North Carolina 

• Technical Knowledge: 

   o Working knowledge of scalp high-density electroencephalographic recordings 

   o Subdural grid and depth stereology for pre-surgical epilepsy evaluations 

• Certification: 

   o ABPN Board Certified in Child Neurology 

   o Board Certified/Eligible in Epilepsy
