Job Description
Our client is looking for a Pet Apparel designer to join their team! This is an on-site role in Manhattan.
You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing stylish, functional, and high-quality apparel for pets. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of apparel construction, fabric technology, fit, and trend awareness- paired with a genuine passion for pets and lifestyle brands. Ideally, you will have licensing experience.
You will collaborate closely with product development, merchandising, and technical design teams to bring innovative concepts to life, from initial sketch through production.
Responsibilities:
-Design seasonal pet apparel collections aligned with brand aesthetic, market trends, and customer insights
-Create detailed sketches, CADs, tech packs, and specifications for production
-Research trends, colors, fabrics, trims, and silhouettes within both human and pet apparel markets
-Develop designs with a focus on fit, comfort, functionality, and durability for pets
-Collaborate cross-functionally with product development, sourcing, merchandising, and production teams
-Participate in fittings and provide clear feedback to ensure proper sizing and construction
-Manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
-Ensure designs meet cost, quality, and margin targets
-Support revisions and updates based on feedback from internal teams and external partners
Qualifications
-3+ years of apparel design experience; pet apparel experience preferred, but not required
-Children's wear experience will also be considered
-Strong understanding of garment construction, materials, and fit principles
-Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop); CAD experience required
-Ability to create detailed tech packs and production-ready designs
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-Excellent communication and collaboration skills
-Bonus if you have trend forecasting experience and experience working with overseas factories and vendors
