Position: Principal Software Engineer

Location: Onsite – State College, PA or Sterling, VA

Project Duration: 12 months w/ possibility of extension or conversion

Rate: Negotiable Based on Experience

Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI Required

What Youll Do

As a Principal Java Software Engineer, you’ll lead the design, development, and testing of sophisticated software solutions for satellite ground systems. Operating in a Linux-based, Agile/DevOps environment, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performance, mission-critical software that supports national security and global defense operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain advanced Java and Python applications for satellite ground systems
• Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and fellow software engineers to ensure seamless integration and performance
• Modernize legacy platforms and migrate workloads to new pipelines
• Define and refine software requirements and specifications in cross-functional teams
• Modify and enhance existing codebases to meet evolving mission needs
• Ensure software reliability, scalability, and performance under demanding conditions
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities
• Adhere to established software engineering processes, documentation standards, and operational requirements
• Stay current with emerging tools and technologies to maintain cutting-edge capabilities
• Deepen your understanding of satellite ground systems and their operational environments

Qualifications:

• U.S. citizenship and an active, transferable TS/SCI security clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
• Minimum 8 years of experience in object-oriented software development using Java in Linux/UNIX environments
• Proficiency with unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit)
• Experience with Python
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps methodologies
• Hands-on experience with DevOps tools: Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Maven, Jira, Git, BitBucket, Confluence
• Experience with SonarQube and secure coding practices
• Proficiency in SQL and database integration
• Security+ certification
• Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols
• Master’s degree in STEM

This is a full-time, onsite position requiring a U.S. government-issued TS/SCI clearance. You’ll be working in a secure, collaborative environment where innovation meets mission-critical execution.
