Project Engineer
6 month contract, looking to be a long-term engagement
Location: Austin, TX | Herndon, VA | Columbus, OH
The Role
We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning, execution, and delivery of mechanical and automation-related projects. This role focuses on program and project execution, vendor coordination, equipment integration, and cross-functional delivery rather than technical engineering design.
You will manage multiple small to mid-scale projects, each differing in complexity, schedule, and technical scope. You thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where operational excellence, clear communication, and proactive ownership make the difference.
A Day in the Life
In this dynamic role, your typical day includes:

- Performing schedule reviews, risk assessments, and progress tracking to keep deployments on time and aligned with business objectives
- Facilitating planning, issue-resolution, and change-management meetings with cross-functional stakeholders
- Capturing detailed meeting notes, distributing action items, and maintaining accountability across teams
- Reviewing equipment status, project documentation, and implementation quality to ensure vendor and internal teams meet expectations
- Troubleshooting project challenges, identifying root causes, and proposing practical, data-driven solutions
- Supporting the deployment of mechanical equipment, automation systems, and integrated solutions in data centers
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the lifecycle of mechanical or automated equipment projects from kickoff through deployment
- Coordinate with internal engineering teams, operations, construction partners, and vendors to execute project deliverables
- Track schedules, budgets, risks, and resources; escalate blockers and drive timely mitigation plans
- Maintain project documentation including meeting notes, action trackers, equipment logs, and status dashboards
- Support evaluation and quality assurance of mechanical systems, installation practices, and integrated solutions
- Ensure alignment between cross-functional teams during project implementations and changes
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, tools, and standards within the org
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another STEM field
- 3+ years of experience as a project engineer, process engineer, project manager, manufacturing engineer, or related occupation
- Experience owning the lifecycle of cross-functional projects, including implementation of integrated systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Operations, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related STEM field
- Experience in data center operations, mechanical systems, or cooling technologies
- Experience running SQL queries or performing data mining for project insights
