As a Quality Engineer, you will validate functional and non-functional requirements delivered by the team. You’ll translate specifications from Product Owners and Functional Analysts into test scripts, with a strong emphasis on test automation. You’ll identify and report defects, support remediation efforts, and drive process efficiency by adopting optimal tools, applying innovative approaches, and enhancing speed and reliability. Additionally, you’ll manage test execution in tools like ALM and
generate automated email reports summarizing test results.

Costco is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Engineer to join our Global People Systems Enhancement & Optimization Team, where you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and performance of enterprise-wide HR and Payroll systems. This position supports critical Corporate HR applications including SAP Payroll, SAP HCM, Fiori Apps, SuccessFactors, and UKG, and involves designing and executing test strategies, validating integrations across payroll, talent management, and core HR modules, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to uphold compliance and data integrity. By leveraging automation tools and deep domain expertise, the Quality Engineer will help deliver seamless testing user experiences and drive continuous improvement across HR technology platforms using test automation and CI/CD tools.

ROLE

● Defines the testing strategy (automation, manual) and approach to validate new or enhanced functionality implemented by teams.

● Collaborates with team members to decompose functional and nonfunctional requirements into test scenarios and test scripts.

● Determines test dependencies including QA test environment, QA tools, training, build and deployment plans, intra-team dependencies, and communication processes.

● Creates and executes manual and automated test scripts to validate the acceptance criteria defined within the epics and user stories implemented by team members.

● Ensure appropriate test coverage (new functionality and regression) to minimize defects leakage to production and strive to maintain Quality Index of more than 98% with zero P1/P2 defects.

● Collaborates with product team members (e.g., Product Owners, Functional Analysts, Software Engineers) to define the automating testing approach / strategy for a given product / application.

● Adopts Automation First strategy (AFS) for all functional and non-functional requirements (as applicable) and collaborates with development team members to identify candidates for test case automation.

● Identifies risks impacting the timely delivery of a given product and collaborates with team members to prepare mitigation (testing) strategies while ensuring high quality.

● Creates and executes smoke, functional, integration, and non-functional test scripts as part of the product / application delivery lifecycle.

● Collaborates with team members to investigate the root cause of failed manual or automated test scripts for resolution and re-run post fix.

● Creates defects with detailed information pertaining to the failed test case / scenario with supporting documentation (screenshots, environment details, log files, etc.).

● Collaborates with team members to identify existing manual and automated test scripts (Regression suite) that will be impacted through the development of new features and capabilities.

● Maintains the automated testing suite and accompanying framework for a given product.

● Collaborates with team members (e.g., Software Engineers, Platform Engineers) to incorporate new automated test scripts into the continuous integration pipeline.

● Shares test automation practices with engineers to promote “shift left” testing disciplines and practices (incorporate testing earlier in development) within a team.

● Shares feedback with the team members pertaining to the quality of sprint deliverables during retrospectives.

● Manages the remediation of defects raised throughout the development lifecycle and creates supporting quality reports that are shared with stakeholders.

● Develops testing protocols and standards to improve end-to-end testing outcomes and shares and adopts best practices with the center of excellence (CoE) and other Quality Engineers.

● Develops and implements automated test data strategies, where applicable, to streamline functional and non-functional testing processes, enhancing team efficiency and reducing reliance on manual testing efforts.

● Designs and develops high quality test automation frameworks, from which others can create repeatable automated tests.

● Works with engineers to identify deficiencies within a product/application’s code base and identifies opportunities to improve overall code quality.

● Implements API Level Automation using various technologies and tools.

● Develops complex SQL against a variety of data sources.

● Leverages/Implements data pipelines to ensure data is reliable, accessible, and optimized for analysis.

● Analyzes, identifies, and validates functional aspects of a shared service, supporting multiple applications.

● Raises the standards for QA practices and stays up-to-date with the latest technologies both in the Company and industry and utilizes them to good effect.

● Identifies test tools and processes to monitor, maintain, and report defects in the application.

REQUIRED

● 5+ years current and demonstrable software quality assurance hands-on experience (front-end and back-end testing) in SAP HCM suite, HCM - Fiori, Portal, GUI.

● 5+ years’ experience using with programming languages C#, Java, JavaScript,Python, etc used in the test automation process.

● 5+ years’ experience working with Software Quality Assurance methodologies and processes.

● 3-5 years hands-on experience using industry standard software QA tools, preferably Microfocus ALM etc.

● 3-5 years’ experience working in an Agile environment.

● 2+ years’ experience with expertise in one of the SAP test Automation tools like Ranorex, Tosca, Selenium, Worksoft, etc.

● 2+ years’ experience with Oracle or MS SQL Server or DB2 and the ability to write SQL queries using table joins.

● 2+ years’ experience with GCP or BigQuery

● Deep understanding of business processes in SAP HCM, SAP Payroll, and SuccessFactors and UKG, including configuration, workflows, and integrations.

● Ability to digest and understand complex and/or ambiguous user requirements and construct test cases to validate them.

● Strong knowledge of SDLC and SQA methodology as well as experience testing on Agile or DevOps teams.

● Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

● Solid understanding of build tools and software configuration management standards.

● Knowledge of and experience using Visual Studio and GIT.

● Proficient with Agile testing methodologies and best practices in a Quality Engineer role.

● Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

● Ability to work both independently and within a close team environment.

● Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced working environment.
