Renewable Contract Analyst/Engineer
Job Summary
The Renewable Contract Analyst/Engineer position is in Southern Power’s Commercial Optimization, Trading, and Transmission (COT&T) organization and reports to the Manager of Commercial Markets for assets located across the United States. This role is responsible for managing multiple offtake agreements and supporting new business opportunities. In addition, this position will administer the obligations of offtake agreements, provide customer service, identify and communicate drivers to optimize energy margins. In order to do so, this position must understand and analyze effects of operations, market dynamics and structure on the commercial terms of the agreements.
This position works closely with customers, operations, finance, business development representatives across Southern Company. This position may require overnight travel.
Major Job Responsibilities Include:
- Manage the financial and operational activities associated with existing renewable sales contracts.
- Includes month-end settlements as well as any required reporting. Including reports to internal and external customers, third party reporting agencies, and investment partners.
- Develop and maintain good customer relationships and resolve contractual disputes that may arise.
- Support regular and ad hoc energy margin reporting processes by performing detailed analysis and clearly communicating findings in a timely manner.
- Lead and/or support contract implementation efforts for new contracts.
- Provide contractual and operational support in the due diligence process for new business and acquisition opportunities in respective markets.
- Proactively qualify and quantify contractual and operational risks.
- Effectively communicate findings to a variety of audiences, including different levels of management.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in technical or business field such as engineering, finance, economics, or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- An MBA or advanced degree in these areas or related field is desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and with other Microsoft Office products is required.
- Working knowledge of power pool production cost and dispatch, principles of financial evaluations, complex contract interpretations, real time operations, renewable generation technologies and environmental attributes of renewable projects (such as RECs) is highly desired.
- Knowledge of wholesale power markets, FERC policies, transmission access (scheduling, point of delivery, curtailment) is desired.
- Strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, verbal and written communications skills.
- Proactively manage tasks and priorities in a dynamic, open environment.
- Natural curiosity that seeks opportunities to understand and create solutions to complex issues across various markets, technologies, and contract structures.
