Job Summary

The Research Development Program Manager will join a dynamic and collaborative team within the Office of Research at the School of Information (UMSI). You will help support faculty research by managing and implementing a diverse range of programs.

Reporting to the Director of Research Administration, as the Program Manager you will:

  • Oversee plans designed to support faculty in all aspects of research development.
  • Design and implement new programs to enhance engagement with community partners and foster collaborations with corporate partners.
  • Provide additional support for research administration activities.

UMSI Office of Research provides expertise in the compliance, administrative requirements, and best practices throughout the grant lifecycle. Our support allows researchers to primarily concentrate on the science and still be excellent stewards of sponsored funds and outcomes. These activities start with strategic, proactive, catalytic, and capacity-building activities early in the lifecycle and continue through the submission, management, and closeout of awards. The office serves as a hub for research-related questions and for navigating research activities at the University.

Responsibilities*

  • Lead educational and training programs related to grant proposal development for the UMSI research community. This includes coordinating seminars/workshops and speakers for faculty and postdoctoral scholars, and leading solicitation or topic-specific group preparation activities.
  • Develop programs and resources to assist faculty with securing funding from multiple sponsors. Connect investigators to existing resources on the University of Michigan campus and beyond. Maintain and expand existing UMSI Research Office resources such as proposal samples, boilerplate descriptions, and grant writing tools.
  • Process a proportion of the submissions as the primary coordinator for large-scale grant proposals, including submission, Just In Time (JIT) activities, and Award Set-Up.
  • Manage program operations to support research engagement with community partners and corporate-funded research, including strategic planning, policy development, resource and template creation, program evaluation, and reporting.
  • Participate in process review, improvement, and maintenance along with the entire team.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in a related field required;
  • 3 or more years of experience in research development, research administration, research-related community engagement, or related role;
  • Experience coordinating large program proposal submissions;
  • Experience developing programming to support research;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Proficient in conveying complex information clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally, to diverse stakeholders.

Work Schedule

Punctual and regular attendance is required. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.

Work Locations

You may be required to travel to multiple locations on and off campus. This is a hybrid position. Your main office workspace is located in our North Quadrangle building.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
