Positions are located in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR), Division of Neurotoxicology (DNT). NCTR's mission is to address FDA's needs with high-quality research and serve as a global resource for collaboration, training, and innovative scientific solutions. DNT serves a multipurpose function utilizing specialized expertise to perform fundamental and applied research into aspects of neurotoxicity associated with FDA-regulated products.
Duties
- Performs experiments in an independent manner, collects and analyzes raw data, publishes the research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and presents results at national and international meetings and scientific seminars.
- Develops novel approaches, determines new research areas that need investigation, and prepares concept papers and protocols for new research projects.
- Provides support to other division researchers whose research requires behavioral testing.
- Responsible for guiding the research and day-to-day activities of laboratory support staff as well as serving as a mentor for undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Prepares first-and/or corresponding authored publications base on their research for the peer-reviewed literature.
- Serves as an internal reviewer for manuscripts/protocols authored by National Center for Toxicological Research scientists, and as a reviewer, as needed, for national and/or international peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications
The position of Research Psychologist falls under the 0180 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 01/10/2025.BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Degree: Major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology and counseling psychology. These two specializations have additional educational requirements, as stated below:
Clinical psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required.
Counseling psychology: For positions at grades GS-9 and above, satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.). Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.
GS-13: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service which includes experience conducting and/or leading research activities in the conception and/or formulation of research ideas or approaches; preparing scientific reports and/or manuscripts; providing technical guidance and direction to scientific staff.
