Summary:
The anesthesia technologist is a trained member of the anesthesia care team with extensive knowledge of all anesthesia equipment and supplies. Under the direction of the Chief CRNA or designee, the anesthesia technologist is responsible for assisting the anesthesia care team in all phases of patient care in the peri-operative setting.


Responsibilities:
Ensure operating room readiness.
2. Identify for patient's status (age appropriate) and planned surgery, then prepare appropriate circuits and supplies for anesthesia prior to anesthetization of patient.
3. Stocks supplies and checks for outdates within the department.
4. cleans and disinfects anesthesia machine, cables, and associated equipment between surgery cases and assists with room turnover.
5. maintains inventory par levels of supplies within the anesthesia department.
6. Checks difficult airway carts, pediatric carts, and other emergency carts daily to ensure readiness.
7. Assists with IV- line, A-line, and hot-line set up for cases.
8. Delivery of emergency equipment to OR when necessary.
9. Utilizes cost containment without compromising care of patient.
10. Follows guidelines of OSHA standard precautions.
11. Participates in unit-based performance improvement activities.
12. Troubleshoots and fixes minor issues with anesthesia equipment.
13. Reports and removes malfunctioning equipment to biomed for repair.
14. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of anesthesia machine functioning and assists with maintenance and quality checks.


Other information:
Education Requirements:
• Anesthesia technician certification program or completion of accredited anesthesia technologist program.
• Associates of Science Degree preferred or willing to advance with an associate technician certification program.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• Certified Anesthesia Technician.
• Successful completion of approved certification for certified anesthesia technician or completion of accredited anesthesia technology program and completion of certification in anesthesia technology.

Professional Experience Requirements:
• 1 year of Anesthesia Tech or relevant medical experience.
