Senior Back End Software Engineer (Java) - Remote

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Back-End Software Engineer to join our Signals Software team in building the next generation of our cloud notebook application. You will play a key role in shaping the back-end architecture and development of our cloud-based product, transforming business requirements into a seamless, intuitive, and powerful tool for the scientific community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members on setting priorities, refining specifications, and implementing new features.

  • Develop high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented code that meets business needs.

  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and performant APIs and services to support our cloud notebook product.

  • Continuously build and enhance impactful features that delight users and elevate the product's capabilities.

  • Leverage cloud services and technologies to ensure optimal application performance, scalability, and reliability.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Java development.

  • 2+ years experience in building Web Services and RESTful APIs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • Experience with Vert.x and Reactive Programming.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub).

  • Practical experience working with JDBC in transactional applications (preferably with PostgreSQL).

  • Solid understanding of performance optimization for database queries and data manipulation (inserts/updates).

  • Proven ability to work effectively in Agile development environments, applying structured methodologies for design, development, and testing.

  • Strong emphasis on teamwork with the ability to collaborate across teams and contribute to a collective effort.

  • A sense of ownership, a strong work ethic, and a focus on delivering high-quality results.

  • Creative problem-solving skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.

  • Life sciences experience is a plus, but not required.
