Position Overview
The Senior Manager will oversee the Project Accounting and Accounts Payable teams. They will assist the team’s internal controls, be actively involved in audits, prepare financial statements and footnotes to the financials, and will have an in-depth understanding of financial accounting including revenue recognition, GAAP and accrual-based accounting.
The Senior Manager will lead the support staff who are responsible for all aspects of Accounting and Reporting as it relates to our build-to-rent construction projects. They will ensure that individual project leaders and accounting records are accurate and presented in accordance with GAAP accounting standards. They will have a pulse on the financial health of the projects, help prepare certain inputs into the budget, and in collaboration with the FPA team, will monitor budget vs. actuals. This role will partner closely with the Corporate Accounting team on monthly closes and reporting.
What You Will Do
- Ensure Treehouse accounting team is meeting all internal and external deadlines and producing high quality deliverables.
- Ensure consistency and adherence to GAAP for project financial reporting across all projects including performing revenue recognition calculations under 606
- Understand GMP Agreements and apply knowledge to draw packages, financial statements, and distribution requirements.
- Partner with Operations team by providing timely and accurate financial information as well as cash and budget management.
- Consistently review each project’s bottom line and understand where each project stands financially.
- Review and reconcile balance sheets
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
- Prepare monthly financial estimates
- Prepare monthly financial analytics and communicate results in a timely manner
- Gather audit samples and interact with auditors.
- Perform and/or coordinate accounting for all construction projects, including but not limited to:
- Maintenance of project budgets in the system making sure the approved budgets are entered.
- Review project change orders and process budget revisions.
- Review coding, tracking and general ledger posting of construction draws for multiple projects.
- Oversee that project accountants work with project managers on variances from approved project budget.
- Responsible for monthly accruals
- Coordinate the development and implementation of policies and procedures for construction projects.
- Review various project draw packages and financial statements to ensure accuracy prior to submitting to owner.
- Drive process improvements related to project reporting and monthly project draws.
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline operations, manage costs and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Design, implement and support appropriate policies and procedures that are consistent with industry best practices to support the continued growth of the organization.
- Occasional travel may be necessary as needed

Ideally, You'll Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition, accrual accounting, and internal controls.
- Experience in construction accounting, including job cost accounting and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Brix, Yardi, Hyphen, NEWSTAR, or other construction-focused ERP systems.
- Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and complex formulas.
- Experience preparing financial statements, managing audits, and working with external auditors.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and team development skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze financial data and provide strategic insights.
You'll crush it if you have experience with
- Previous experience in real estate development or construction accounting, particularly in home builder and commercial projects.
- Knowledge of GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) Agreements and their impact on financials and draw packages.
- Familiarity with construction management software / procedures.
- Experience with process improvement initiatives, such as automating financial reporting or streamlining monthly close processes.
- Prior experience leading teams through system implementations or financial software transitions.
- A CPA or CMA certification, or actively working toward certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments, including operations and development teams.

Pay Range
USD $140,000.00 - USD $170,000.00 /Yr.
Additional Compensation
Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, typically ranging between 10-15% of base salary annually, depending on individual and organizational performance.
