Software Engineer-High Performance Computing
Job Description
One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a Software Engineer with demonstrated ability to lead development of new technologies to support our innovative MDA team in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.
We are seeking software engineers with robust software development background who have the skills and interest in software design and development of features and algorithms used in scientific software on high-performance computing (HPC) systems. This position will involve code optimization and algorithm development towards improving existing software and tools as well as developing new efficient ones.
This position requires work 100% on site in Linthicum, MD, or Annapolis Junction, MD.
Candidate must be a US Citizen and be willing to obtain/ maintain a security clearance once onboard.
Your responsibilities:
• Enable scaling of simulation and optimization software on HPC systems through the design and development of efficient parallel algorithms.
• Leverage software design to improve efficiency of modeling and simulation workflows.
• Improve simulation performance via code optimization at the core, node, and system level.
• Develop tools that allow for benchmarking and testing of modeling and simulation software.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 2+ years of relative experience; master's degree in a STEM discipline with 0+ years of relative experience.
• Experience with collaborative software development including code optimization, debugging, testing and CI/CD.
• Some experience developing code on HPC systems within Linux environment.
• Proficiency in writing code in C++ (preferred) and Python.
• US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance per business requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, or a relevant STEM related field plus 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with running, profiling, and benchmarking software on HPC systems.
• Experience with hardware-aware code optimization for HPC systems.
• Experience with developing parallel code (MPI, OpenMP) or GPU programming (CUDA).
• Active security clearance.
Primary Level Salary Range: $87,600.00 - $131,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
