Space Vehicle Chief Engineer - Staff
Job Description
The Chief Engineer will provide subject matter expertise and address five systems engineering elements: (1) Design and develop system architectures for space applications; (2) Define key capabilities and performance requirements; (3) Lead the Space Vehicle Engineering Review Board (ERB); (4) Develop thorough definition of system interfaces; and (5) SV AI&T planning. This candidate will also be responsible for close customer and mission partner engagement and cooperation to ensure that requirements meet customer expectations.
This position requires multi-disciplined knowledge in engineering areas, including systems design, hardware, software and firmware design, and integration and test.
The successful candidate will interface with customers, internal executive management, program management, multiple engineering disciplines, including hardware, software and system engineering, procurement (Global Supply Chain), suppliers, and manufacturing. In addition, the applicant must be able to lead, and report progress for requirements documentation, technical risk management, key system performance parameters, and lessons learned.
The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills and will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the successful candidate will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across our Surveillance & Targeting Business Unit and the Space Systems Sector to leverage lessons learned from our other Space programs.
This position is on-site in Linthicum, MD.
Basic Qualifications:
• BS in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 12 years relevant experience, 10 years with MS, or 7 with a PhD
• No clearance required to start, but must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance and SCI approval/access
• Experience in design, development, implementation, or operation of Spacecraft or Space Payloads
• Technical & People Leadership including planning, scheduling and execution, staffing, setting expectations, tasking, and measuring and reporting progress
• RF, RADAR, and/or COMMS Systems development and implementation experience for Space Applications
Preferred Qualifications:
• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, and/or Systems Engineering
• Space Integration and Test (I&T) experience at subsystem, Payload, or Space Vehicle level
• ESA (Electronically Scanned Array)/Phased Array Antenna Integration, Test, and Calibration
• Active TS and/or SCI clearance
Primary Level Salary Range: $163,200.00 - $244,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
