Summary:

The Stroke and STEMI Coordinator (SSC) demonstrates advanced knowledge of current nursing theory and clinical practice in stroke and chest pain management. Focus, oversight and coordination of personnel and interdisciplinary team efforts in regard to primary stroke and chest pain care and ongoing comprehensive program development. Demonstrates knowledge of stroke and chest pain care across the continuum and serves as teacher and liaison to the other departments within UNC Pardee organization and the community.

Our Stroke and STEMI Coordinator will collaborate with the Stroke and STEMI Team; the team consists of a physician champion who engages physicians and leads process changes, and a stroke coordinator who guides the entire program. The core team is supported by active participants from leadership and departments throughout the hospital. The Stroke and STEMI Coordinator Nurse will be in close communication with the facility to address Stroke and STEMI Coordinator matters. It is expected for the candidate in this position to be comfortable providing education to staff members and health care workers.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains review, revisions, and updates to any policies about Stroke and STEMI in tandem with the appropriate team members.
  • Represents Pardee at quarterly EMS Peer Review to review STEMI and Stroke Data.
  • Collaborates with marketing to prepare community outreach efforts throughout the year, with focused efforts in February and May.
  • Works closely with the Clinical Education dept. To ensure NIHSS, EHAC, advanced stroke, and cardiac care are provided by new hires, volunteers, and all licensed and non-licensed personnel as appropriate.
  • Attends monthly virtual meetings with the UNC System Stroke and Chest Pain Consortia.
  • Works closely with the Quality dept. To track and trend NCDR CPMI and CATHPCI, and AHA GWTG Stroke data for areas of improvement, and report out at quality meetings
  • Hosts Quarterly Stroke meetings.
  • Hosts Quarterly Chest Pain Committee Meetings.
  • Maintains relationships with key stakeholders such as telecommunications, EMS, Mission, Prisma, etc. 

Other information:

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Two (2) years of relevant clinical nursing experience in an acute healthcare setting
  • NIHSS- Required within 6 months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Self-motivated and independent worker
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
 
Preferred
  • Cardiovascular and Neurosciences experience
  • Familiar with Comprehensive Stroke and STEMI Program requirements and measure
  • Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN)
  • Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN)
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • Familiar with Comprehensive Stroke and STEMI Program requirements and measure
