Document and Compliance Team Lead

The position is located at Georgia Power Company’s corporate office in Atlanta, Georgia or at a local Georgia Power Operating Headquarters (specific location TBD by hiring manager) and is subject to the company’s hybrid work policy which currently is four (4) days per week in the office or onsite at an affiliated office. 

Some travel (up to 25% & potentially overnight) may be required with little to no advanced notice.

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Document and Compliance Team Lead is to serve as point person and leader of (i) the Document Coordinators, who record the easements, deeds, leases, and other agreements documenting Georgia Power’s acquisition of property rights; (ii) the Title 22 Compliance Specialist and Compliance Administrators, who ensure that the company complies with all applicable condemnation (Eminent Domain) statutes; and (iii) Title Specialists, who conduct title searches to verify ownership and identify any potential issues with the title. 

The Team Lead provides leadership and direction to the team, ensuring successful planning and execution of processes, and maintaining high performance standards. Additional responsibilities include monitoring performance, providing feedback, and ensuring quality assurance. 

Education Requirements:

A high school diploma is required. A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree is highly preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:

Valid Georgia’s driver’s license

Experience Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of administrative and operational experience required
  • 2+ years of leadership experience (formal or informal) preferred
  • Legal, real estate, compliance and/or tax experience preferred 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • General understanding of real estate, various real estate documents, and recording requirements of same in Georgia
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Southern Company computer systems and software
  • Excellent time management, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with extensive research experience and the ability to meet hard deadlines
  • Knowledge of key software platforms and websites such as LIMS, GSCCCA, and PowerBI
  • Ability to work largely independently with occasional supervision, guidance, and support 

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Document Coordinators, Compliance Administrators, Title Specialists, and Title 22 Compliance Specialist, ensuring accurate recording of all easements, deeds, leases, and other property rights documents. 
  • Establish performance expectations, training new and existing team members, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring that all processes meet organizational standards.
  • Serve as a team lead to the Document Coordinators, Compliance Administrators, Title Specialists, and Title 22 Compliance Specialist, including documentation of processes (and analysis and update of same), training new team members, and conducting all necessary performance management responsibilities.
  • Manage end-to-end document workflow, including timely e-filing, county recording, LIMS updates, and quality assurance reviews.

  • Develop performance metrics to ensure that documents were processed efficiently and moved through the review stages promptly.
  • Ensure compliance standards are consistently met and maintained through regular audits and thorough documentation.
  • Manage thorough and efficient review of executed documents submitted for recording, creation/maintenance of policies regarding document errors, and regular communication with agents and coordinators regarding same.
  • Update spreadsheets to accurately reflect status of all recordings and communicate said status to acquisition agents, acquisition coordinators (employees and contractors), and GPC business partners.
  • Ensure accuracy of fee simple and/or tax form documentation and confirm timely submission to Property Accounting Department.
  • Coordinate with Land Research, Land Engineering, Legal, and Power Delivery Departments
  • Facilitate communication among team and Land Acquisition to foster a collaborative environment and promote quality assurance.

This position has been identified as a role that will require potential travel using your own vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) or the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle.  The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license). 
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record
