Job Description

Based on our internal equity review process, the starting salary for this position will be $17.13. 
The current full hourly range for this position is $17.13 - $19.80.

Join the Youth Engagement team of Parks Tacoma’s Parks and Recreation Department—a fast-growing, dynamic group dedicated to keeping the youth of our community at the forefront of recreational planning. Working closely with Teen Center Site Leads, Assistant Site Leads, and community center staff, you will help supervise middle school students in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment across Parks Tacoma’s four community centers. There’s rarely a dull moment as you actively engage with youth through activities like basketball, wall ball, video games, air hockey, and academic support, while also providing light snacks to promote healthy, balanced eating habits. This role is entirely in-person and focuses on building meaningful, lasting relationships with youth while encouraging them to play, learn, and grow. The ideal candidate is reliable, enthusiastic about youth engagement, and committed to following Parks Tacoma procedures and policies. You’ll receive training from experienced Youth Engagement team members and be provided with the resources needed to succeed in this fun and rewarding field of youth programming.

Implement, lead and/or oversee programming and activities in an assigned program area

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:

  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
