Summary:
Under supervision of an RN, the Cardiac Telemetry Tech assists with clinical care by monitoring and recording cardiac rhythms.  


Responsibilities:

  • Documents and interprets patient’s heart rhythm and rate by utilizing telemetry recordings. Identifies patient arrhythmias/abnormalities or significant changes from baseline and reports changes immediately to the assigned nurse. 

  • Alerts nursing staff in the event of arrhythmias/abnormalities or significant changes from baseline.  

  • Issues telemetry equipment to patients newly admitted to unit. Maintains inventory of and tracks issued equipment. 

  • Coordinates with outside vendor support to maintain and service telemetry equipment. 

  • Tracks and ensures continuity of telemetry, recording patient leaving unit or disconnecting leads and working to ensure effective return to measurement. 

  • Ensures patient safety at all times by notifying the charge nurse of any risk factors seen initiating and maintaining appropriate safety measures as outlined in policies and procedures. 

  • Inputs clinical documentation and charges into electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) tool 

  • Demonstrates proper performance of skills reflected and validated by the Monitor Technician orientation/skills checklist, which includes an annual EKG competency test.

This position is subject to a yearly EKG competency test.  

Required 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

Preferred 

  • Experience working in a healthcare setting. 

  • Experience working with EPIC EMR. 

  • Experience or training with medical terminology.
