Berklee Counseling Services seeks an experienced psychotherapist to join a diverse and dynamic multidisciplinary team. We are seeking candidates who are excited about working with college students and with experience providing brief interventions. Berklee Counseling Services provide individual and group counseling; assessment and referral to other professionals and institutions; crisis intervention (no on-call responsibilities); consultation; and outreach and prevention.

Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, the Temp Counselor provides brief mental health services to the student population including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, goal-oriented individual counseling and referrals to community providers. In addition, the Temp Counselor participates in ongoing collaboration with other members of the Health and Wellness staff in providing psycho-educational programming and outreach services to the student population. This is a two month per diem position, 10 hours per week (schedule to be determined). Counseling Center operating hours are Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide mental health services to student population within the Flexible Care Model

  • Conduct assessments for personal counseling and refer as appropriate to community providers for psychiatric evaluation, medications and/or longer-term treatment.

  • Provide crisis intervention

  • Maintain all pertinent clinical documentation and enter data into counseling medical record.

  • Attend and participate in individual clinical supervision as well as and peer group supervision and case presentation.

  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings.

  • Provide consultation to staff, faculty and student leaders of the Berklee community as directed by Director of Counseling Services.

  • If licensed, maintain licensure requirements and carry professional liability insurance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master of Social Work or Master of Counseling degree or equivalent degree

2. Massachusetts license or license eligible, can be LMFT, LMHC, LICSW or equivalent

3. Strong general counseling and crisis intervention skills

4. Multicultural excellence in working with students of color, first generation students, LGBTQ students, and international students

5. Strong knowledge of Boston area resources, providers, and section 12 protocol

6. Minimum of 2 years of experience providing counseling services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Crisis intervention and triage skills

  • Working with college students or working within a college setting

  • Knowledge of Section 12 procedures and ethical considerations

  • Strong psychological assessment, individual, and group counseling skills.

  • Ability to engage with multicultural and diverse student populations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees are responsible for maintaining an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion or harassment, including sexual harassment. Work is performed indoors and primarily in an office setting. The noise level is usually low to moderate. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel.

Some evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. Counselors may be expected to serve on-call in various capacities, generally within the business work day hours (9-5).
