Temporary Holiday Volunteer Services Assistant
Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Works with MFAH Volunteer Services staff to coordinate and assist with supervision of volunteers assigned to various holiday activities and events.
- Assists directly with Volunteer Services to execute and prep all supplies for the MFAH Holiday events
- Assist with Bayou Bend’s Christmas Village by greeting guests, reviewing event activities, monitor activity materials, and answer questions as appropriate. The activity stations include outdoor games, a cotton snowball toss area, music-making hand bell stations, a holiday movie theater, and a downhill sled slide.
- Motivates, encourages and recognizes volunteers through words of encouragement, breaks, rewards or other appropriate methods.
- Assists Volunteer Services with onboarding volunteers nightly at Christmas Village.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and follow-through
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for contact with public
- Strong customer service skills
- Professional appearance and conduct
- Flexible schedule with ability to work outside of “normal” workday as needed, primarily evenings during the month of December.
Education and Experience:
- Event coordinating experience a plus

About Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) is one of the largest museums in the United States. Located in Houston’s downtown Museum District, the Museum is the oldest art museum in Texas and one of the landmark cultural institutions in Houston. The Museum’s permanent collection contains more than 70,000 works from six continents covering more than 6,000 years of history.
The MFAH embarked on a truly transformative campus redevelopment in 2012. With two new buildings, a new conservation center, the redeveloped campus ties together the Museum’s signature architectural structures while providing new spaces for the creation and conservation of art, and contributes to the overall revitalization of the pedestrian experience in Houston. The final structure, the Nancy and Rich Kinder building, opened in the fall of 2020. During this entire time of significant construction, annual attendance reached a high of 1.25.
MFAH employs over 650 full time, part time and temporary staff, while 400 docents support the public serving and educational mission and 1,500 volunteers support a broad range of MFAH activities.
