SUMMARY

A Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) performs diagnostic and special procedure ultrasonography in accordance with established policies and procedures. Typically reports to a radiology or ultrasound coordinator.

Incumbents hired as general sonographers in regular status are required to receive certification as a Registered Vascular Sonographer within one year from the date of hire. If incumbents fail the test twice within this first year, they will be terminated but able to apply for open available positions within the organization.

Per diem employees are encouraged but not required to obtain the certification.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit required. Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonographic program and ARDMS certified. CEU documentation required for certification must be provided. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.

EXPERIENCE

Two years' ultrasound experience.

SKILLS and ABILITIES

Able to independently perform tests. Good interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently.

* Communication: Ability to effectively interact with a patient who may be under physical or emotional distress. Discuss with appropriate staff to insure patient is informed of any inconvenience. Clearly and effectively relays pertinent information to the interpreting physician.

* Adaptability: Ability to adjust to changing pace of department and frequent interruptions.


The hourly range for this role is $43.66 to $60.93 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. Atrius Health complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
