Key Accountabilities
- Installation/removal of utility foundations, poles, excavating roadways, digging utility pole holes, installing foundations, and delivering material and equipment.
- Perform duties associated with foundation, structure, pole and other types of installations.
- Perform all duties while adhering to National Grid Safety and Environmental standards.
- Responds to emergency calls during off hours which may require overnight stays and perform duties in adverse conditions.
- Ability to operate equipment and perform manual labor or other duties as directed in various environmental conditions in a transmission right of way.
- Operate in a team environment.
- Perform all other work as required by the job, examples are but not limited to groundwork, delivering stock, digging pole holes by hand shovel, etc.
- Delivery of fuel products to support National Grid projects.
Qualifications
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license, with an ability to obtain a Class A Driver's License with an air brake endorsement.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Be familiar with heavy equipment similar to equipment used by National Grid Transmission Line Services department.
- Be familiar with safe construction practices with knowledge of foundation construction in the Utility environment.
- Ability to work in Enclosed Spaces, be familiar with all types of vehicles/equipment in the Utility environment.
- Become familiar with Blue prints, Construction drawings, and Environmental Field Issue maps.
- Become familiar with Safe Hoisting and Rigging practices in the Transmission Line environment.
- Must be able to read and write English Language legibly.
- Demonstrate an ability to follow written or oral directions.
- Be physically able bodied and a safe and careful worker.
- Work under adverse weather conditions, in a 24/7, 365-day Operation.
- Be available for scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
- Accept assignments anywhere within service territory.
- Possesses Strong Mechanical and Communications abilities.
- Be able to progress to 2nd class utility worker.
Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.

- Successful completion of the Physical Capacity Test.
- Final Awarding of the Job(s) is contingent upon the applicant(s) successful completion of the FAT and a Field Assessment.
- Employees hired into this position will follow under the guidelines of the 8-year agreement.
