Washington, DC - 2027 IP-Trademark/Copyright Summer Associate

Washington, DC

Job Description

The Washington, DC office of Morgan Lewis seeks to hire a 2L IP-Trademark/Copyright Summer Associate for our 2027 Summer Associate Program.

With more than 250 lawyers and professionals, Morgan Lewis boasts one of the largest and most comprehensive intellectual property (IP) practices of any full-service law firm worldwide. The Morgan Lewis summer program is designed to cultivate outstanding law students into the next generation of Morgan Lewis IP lawyers by offering an immersive summer experience that provides meaningful insight into our practice and culture.

Our summer associates are given the opportunity to work on matters that would typically be assigned to first-year associates. Although work assignments vary among practice groups and offices, we rely on our summer associates to help complete actual client work, while ensuring that they participate in a generous mix of training and professional development opportunities, with a focus on presentation, oral argument, legal writing, and practice-specific skills.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
*       Be enrolled full-time in an ABA-accredited law school with an anticipated graduation date of 2028.
*       Preferable to have a technology or life sciences background. Preferred degrees (B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.) in electrical engineering, computer science, or physics, or an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in life sciences.
*       Have outstanding leadership skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to exceptional client service.
*       Be genuinely interested in a career with Morgan Lewis's IP practice.
*       Be a US citizen or otherwise authorized to work in the United States.

Process:
Interested students should submit the following in support of their candidacy: a cover letter, resume, law school and undergraduate transcripts (unofficial transcripts are accepted), and a writing sample. If your law school transcript is not available at the time of your application, we ask that you submit your first semester transcript to our application portal and/or Sandra Rahimpour (IP Recruiting Manager) as soon as you receive it.

Morgan Lewis summer associates are paid a weekly salary of $4,326 which is reflective of the legal industry market scale.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors.  Final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.  Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives a permanent offer of employment.  If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
