About the Position:

National Grid is looking for a qualified Crew Leader Line Mechanic A-Hot Stick in our Herkimer, NY location. At the starting hourly rate of $63.06. We offer excellent benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k), vacation, tuition assistance and more.

In this role the selected candidate will direct an overhead line crew and participate in construction, maintenance, and trouble response on the electric distribution and/or transmission system. The Crew Leader will be responsible to direct and participate in various distribution and transmission switching; construct and repair overhead and underground lines; install and operate regulators, reclosures and sectionalizes; install/connect/disconnect services; respond to and resolve miscellaneous customer requests. The Crew Leader is also responsible for productivity, construction related administrative tasks such as job closeout and time keeping, and ensuring compliance with all appropriate procedures, standards, and safety practices.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be a qualified Journeyman Lineman (at least 5 years' experience as a lineman)
  • Ability and willingness to work around hazardous/heavy equipment and energized electrical equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to wear and use safety equipment as required by Company safety rules and federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various Company locations and remote job sites.
  • Ability and willingness to work different schedules, on holidays and weekends and overtime as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments including all weather conditions, at elevated heights (above 30 feet) and in confined spaces.
  • Valid State Driver's license
  • Must possess a CDL A or B (Commercial Driver's License) and a DOT Medical Card
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass pre-employment validated company test(s).
  • Must pass physical abilities examination, skills assessment.

Salary:

  • $63.06/Hourly

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.

Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
