Are you an experienced data scientist looking to join an industry-leading team? We’re looking to add expertise in our applied meteorology area and are considering levels II through IV in seniority.



E Source develops groundbreaking data science applications that change the way utilities understand and manage their networks. We tackle challenging projects like forecasting the impact of severe weather on utility networks and optimizing vegetation management strategies. To conduct these projects, we leverage a combination of machine-learning models, inference-based statistics, and remote-sensing applications. Each project or product is collaboratively developed in-house by a data science team of diverse professional backgrounds and domain expertise. Ultimately, our work helps utilities enhance their electric reliability and prepare to adopt and deploy cutting-edge green energy technology.

How you’ll help:


  • Fit and assess predictive models leveraging numerical weather forecasts and other data sources in Python
  • Analyze retrospective and forward-looking impact of weather on the utility grid
  • Collaborate with a broader data science and engineering team to take projects and products from inception to client delivery


What will make you a great fit


  • MS in atmospheric science, meteorology, engineering, mathematics, statistics or similar field of study, plus one year of applied experience or PhD with applied analysis in aforementioned field of study
  • Minimum three years of experience conducting data science projects using spatial-temporal weather datasets in industry or applied research, including analytical design, managing schedules, and communicating results to stakeholders
  • Extensive experience fitting and assessing predictive models leveraging numerical weather forecasts in Python
  • Experience conducting all phases of analysis, including data compilation, EDA, feature engineering, and generating deliverables
  • Experience working as part of a larger data science team, collaborating with technical and nontechnical peers and stakeholders


Preferred qualifications:


  • Domain expertise using remotely sensed weather observations
  • Domain expertise using numerical weather prediction models (e.g., GFS, NAM, HRRR)
  • Experience leveraging cloud computing infrastructure (e.g., AWS)
  • Domain expertise in the utility space (electric, gas, water)

This role will be 100% remote, but occasional travel may be required.
