Job Description

The Peabody Essex museum is seeking a candidate for a part-time Security Gallery Officer position at 24 hours per week. Our professional security staff is responsible for enforcing museum security policies and procedures in order to protect PEM's notable collections, exhibits, and property. In addition, Gallery Officers are responsible for safeguarding and providing assistance to museum visitors and staff within and around the museum complex. The right candidate must possess excellent communication skills, enjoys working with the public, and presents a professional attitude at all times. This is a forward facing role that requires regular interaction with the public and the ability to stay calm during an emergency or conflict.

This part-time role is 24 hours per week and the hourly rate for this opportunity is $19.56 per hour. Must be available to work weekend, holiday, and evening shifts. Must be able to sit, walk or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Training and uniforms will be provided. Prior experience or education in criminal justice, security, military service or customer service is strongly preferred. Prior experience in a museum, cultural institution or non-profit organization is a plus. A valid Massachusetts driver's license is preferred for availability to work at off-site PEM properties on the North Shore. We are very interested in candidates with conversational fluency in a language other than English.
