Job Description

ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a Locum Gastroenterologist to provide hospital-based call coverage due to a coverage gap. This role includes inpatient consults and outpatient gastroenterology/internal medicine responsibilities in a non-trauma hospital setting, with a strong focus on endoscopic procedures.

Dates / Schedule

Coverage is structured in weeklong and weekend call blocks, typically 24-hour call starting at 7:00 a.m.

Estimated credentialing timeframe: 90 days

Job Details & Responsibilities
  • Hospital call based gastroenterology coverage

  • Adult patient population

  • Clinical settings include hospital and outpatient/clinic

  • No trauma designation

  • Onsite lab and X-ray services

  • Outpatient Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine required

  • EMR: Epic

  • Average volume: 8 procedures per week across GI, hepatology, surgery, colonoscopy, EGD, and ERCP

Required Procedures Include:

  • Upper and lower GI endoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic)

  • Colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy

  • ERCP

  • EUS (preferred)

  • Liver and small bowel biopsy

  • Esophageal dilation and manometry (including interpretation)

  • PEG placement

  • Variceal management (banding, injection)

  • Foreign body removal

  • Sengstaken/Blakemore tube management

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Board Certified in Gastroenterology (required)

  • Active Virginia medical license (required)

  • ERCP experience (required)

  • EUS experience (preferred)

  • Must be available to cover at least one open shift

  • Clean malpractice history (required for temporary privileges)

  • Flu vaccine (required)

  • COVID vaccine (highly preferred)

  • NPDB Self-Query report dated within 30 days at time of presentation (required)
