Job Purpose
Lead Engineers at National Grid play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our electric transmission and distribution systems. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for the development and implementation of engineering solutions to novel and unique problems associated with meeting future electrification, decarbonization needs, cost efficiencies, digital transformation, and NY State Policy goals.
The successful candidate will have in-depth technical expertise and passion for the clean energy sector and provide thought leadership for the Company on novel electric operational and planning solutions. The individual will be a self-starter and results-driven engineer who will bring collaboration, innovation, and data-driven decision-making to meet evolving energy needs, accelerate clean energy integration, and optimize investments for long-term resilience.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and support cross-functional teams in the development, implementation and management of new or evolutionary solutions and technologies, specifically in areas such as electric system planning, DER integration, network access, and grid modernization.
- Engage appropriately with specified stakeholders, government agencies, consenting authorities and media within the development phases of a project.
- Input to the development of the engineering perspective of new business concepts.
- Complete the definition of technical specifications in relation to a range of technologies.
- Determine the options to be considered for the project at initiation to satisfy the need case for investment.
- Ensure that a robust basis of design is produced for each scheme which documents the reasons for the investment, the options considered, costs and program.
- Represent the company on industry and regulatory working groups as appropriate. Assure the focus and attainment of business goals and objectives
- Provides support to other areas of National Grid such as Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Distribution Planning, Transmission Planning, etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school required. Preferred Major in Electrical Engineering.
- 10 years of related experience
- Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation.
- Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.
- Proactively makes changes to improve performance, efficiency and effectiveness of processes; for example, challenge existing engineering procedures and highlight areas for improvement.
- Possesses positive expectations for team members and expresses regard for them.

Salary: $133,000 - $157,000
