Logistics Specialist - Rail

A Day in the Life:

This position serves as the rail traffic liaison between Bunge production departments at Decatur, Indiana, Delphos, OH, and Bellevue, OH and the serving railroads of these facilities. This includes, but is not limited to car forecasting, billing, and management of car fleet to meet facility demands.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Manage the rail flow for inbound and outbound hopper and tanker car fleets for Decatur, Delphos, and Bellevue
  • Monitor railcar movement into and out of Decatur, Delphos, and Bellevue making sure proper number of cars are available at each facility to meet production demands (fleet management)
  • Accurately forecast car needs for each facility based off run rates at each facility to keep production running.
  • Coordinate with operations daily to assess rail car needs, locations, numbers, and priorities for Decatur, Delphos, and Bellevue through daily track lists
  • Report cars loaded at Decatur, Delphos, and Bellevue to appropriate corporate contact to aid in billing prioritization of railcars.
  • Assign cars to load orders and EDI shipments based on commercial input.
  • Create loading plans to give to Operations daily, but also for night and weekend directives
  • Provide accurate, timely, and up to date billing information to the railroad including manual billing as needed on railroad websites.
  • Notify operations in timely manner when issues arise that can cause delayed railcar movements into facilities affecting production.
  • Work with local rail teams to trace and escalate, if need be, when cars are "HOT" and are needed to avoid operational disruptions
  • Work with rail Maintenance or local Operations teams on car maintenance as needed for both hopper and tanker railcars
  • Build strong relationships with both the railroad and Bunge operations.
  • Escalate railroad issues to the Corporate rail teams when local communication does not resolve the issue
  • Assist with paying and approving railroad assessorial charges and invoices.
  • Limit demurrage charges from railroad at all 3 facilities.
  • Ad Hoc work that may occur due to rail issues (ex. Fix wrong billing information etc.)

Skill/Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in business, agribusiness, accounting, or related field preferred but not required.
  • 5-7 years commodity, transportation, or rail specific related experience preferred
  • Excel and Word experience required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong initiative, accuracy, and attention to detail required
  • You may be on call to work weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet certain shipping deadlines as needed.
