• JOB SUMMARY: Full-time faculty members are professional educators responsible for providing a world-class learner experience for Central Arizona College students. Faculty members perform instruction-related and other duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, vision, mission, policies, and procedures of the College. 

The faculty member will:

• Teach all levels of English composition (developmental English and first-year composition) and other writing and literature courses per college workload policy (15 credits per semester) at the various college campuses across the district in a variety of potential modalities (e.g., face-to-face, online, hybrid, and live stream online) and schedules (e.g., 16-week, 8-week, and late-start classes).  Evenings and weekends may be required.
• Develop instructional materials and present them through lectures, workshops, and/or other learning venues, using a variety of effective teaching and learning techniques. Prepare syllabi and course calendars/schedules. 
• Employ a variety of assessment tools; evaluate, grade, and comment on student work to facilitate and ensure student progress in the course. Assess the curriculum for its effectiveness in meeting student learning outcomes.
• Demonstrate and maintain effective communication with students using a variety of tools (e.g., e-mail, online discussions, virtual chats in Blackboard, instant messaging, phone, and/or face-to-face consultations) to provide frequent feedback. 
• Establish and maintain office hours per college policy. Maintain records of student attendance, progress, and performance; complete and return required reports to the appropriate office by the established due date. 
• Propose and develop new courses, curricula, programs, instructional materials, and evaluation tools necessary to meet the needs of the students and community. 
• Assist in the recruitment and retention of students, primarily in the instructional setting, through the development and implementation of effective teaching and learning strategies.
• Participate in professional development for continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
• Engage through committees, task forces, and various programs in supporting students and the department, division, and college.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Rhetoric/Composition, English, or Writing OR a related field with 18 graduate credits in one of the above fields from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills, ability, and experience in:

1. Teaching and remaining current with trends, research, and pedagogy in developmental English and first-year composition courses. 
2. Teaching and developing quality courses in a variety of modalities, including online and hybrid.
3. Teaching at the community college level.
4. Communicating and collaborating with diverse populations. 

Background Verification:  As a condition of employment, all candidates accepting an offer of employment for a full-time, part- time, temporary, student worker, or volunteer position, will be required to undergo a Background Verification.  Employment with Central Arizona College is contingent upon the successful completion of the background verification.  The level the background verification for this position is: Standard level.

Important Notice: As a condition of employment, all full time Central Arizona College employee’s automatically become members of the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). This is a pension system that requires mandatory contributions from the employee with a matching contribution from the employer.  The 25-26 fiscal year contribution rate is 12.00%.  Please note this rate is subject to change on a fiscal year basis. Copies of transcripts should reflect completed coursework and conferred degrees. All academic coursework and degrees must be from a regionally accredited college or university or be certified by an acceptable agency that the institution is recognized by the appropriate governmental agency in its home country (this is generally stated in the degree evaluation).
Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by an acceptable translator. Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited course work by an acceptable agency such as those agencies certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
