Position: Controller
Location: Orlando, FL
Duration : Full-time
Rate Range : $170-250k
Position Overview:
The Controller will serve as the financial leader for a major business unit, owning BU-level financial performance while also providing deep program/project financial oversight across multiple government contracts, including CONUS and OCONUS programs.
This role reports directly to senior leadership and partners closely with executive stakeholders, program leadership, and business development teams.
Day to Day Responsibilities/typical day look like:
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Own and manage Business Unit P&L, annual budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting
- Lead annual and quarterly forecasting processes, including variance analysis and executive reporting
- Provide proactive financial analysis around program performance, spend plans, and cash flow
Government Contract Finance & Compliance
- Oversee financial management for DoD/Federal government contracts
- Ensure compliance with DCAA, DCMA, CAS, GAAP, and ASC 606 requirements
- Review and approve revenue recognition methods for all contract awards
Program & Project Control
- Monitor and present program EACs, cost performance, revenue projections, and risk assessments
- Support scenario planning for awards, schedule slips, and program changes
- Approve project accounting setup for new and existing contracts
Proposal & Business Development Support
- Support proposal development and pricing activities
- Build and validate direct and indirect rates for bids
- Partner with BD and program teams to assess financial risks and opportunities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor a small finance/accounting team
- Oversee billing, AR, AP, GL reconciliations, and close cycles
- Coordinate with finance partners supporting other locations
Audit & Controls
- Support internal and external audits
- Perform responsibilities aligned with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance

Requirements:
- Strong experience in government contract finance (DoD or comparable federal environment)
- Demonstrated working knowledge of DCAA and DCMA requirements (non-negotiable)
- Proven ability to perform both:
- Business Unit–level financial oversight and
- Hands-on program/project controller responsibilities
- Advanced forecasting and financial modeling skills
- Experience supporting multiple contract types (e.g., Fixed-Price, CPFF, Award Fee)
- Must be a U.S. Person and eligible to obtain clearance
Plusses:
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint (strongly preferred)
- Experience with SAP or Oracle (acceptable if government finance expertise is strong)
- Manufacturing or production cost accounting experience
- CPA and/or MBA
- Experience preparing and presenting financials to executive leadership
